In 1987, our circus education programs were organized into a separate division of our organization, as the National Circus Project. NCP has conducted teaching programs in thousands of public schools, introducing basic circus skills to over 5,000,000 American schoolchildren.
In
1990, NCP directors began an artist exchange program in which international artists of merit are placed in our American school residence
programs, adding a new cultural dimension to the arts experience. Participating countries include
THE CIRCUS BACKSTORY
The National Circus Project is the field division of Circus Education Specialists Inc. [CES Inc.], a non-profit,
tax-exempt cultural arts organization based in Westbury,
CES Inc. was founded in 1984, with a mission to preserve
and promote the traditional circus arts through education and entertainment. CES Inc. provides a wide range of services to the
public, including circus arts performances and tours, circus instruction programs, teacher training seminars, lectures for professional
conferences, circus arts research and technical/historical circus information services.
In addition to the National Circus Project, the parent company C.E.S. Inc. runs a national Circus Information & Referral Service (CIRS). Listed with the Library of Congress National Referral Center and the Encyclopedia of Associations, CIRS maintains an extensive book, publication and videotape library on the circus arts, and has provided data and fact verification for publications and organizations such as Time Magazine, TV Guide, Reader's Digest, Atlantic Monthly Magazine, Disney/Touchstone Pictures and National Geographic's "Explorer".
